Preußisches Kammerorchester

  • Richard Wagner:
    Siegfried Idyll
  • Richard Strauss:
Konzert für Horn und Orchester Nr. 1 Es-Dur op. 11
  • Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy:
    "Trompeten-Ouvertüre" C-Dur op.101
  • Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy:
    Sinfonie Nr. 4 A-Dur op. 90 („Italienische“)
conductor:
Frank Zacher
soloist:
Stefan Dohr, Horn

Musical guests from the region present a romantic program rich in contrast: the Prussian Chamber Orchestra from Prenzlau with its musical director Frank Tacher, and Stefan Dohr, solo horn player from the Berlin Philharmonic. Richard Wagners „Siegried-Idyll“ takes us into the world of the epic Norse/Germainic saga, the Nibelungenlied, and Felix Mendelssohns „Midsummer Night's Dream“ into the fairytale world of William Shakespeare. These works with their strong descriptive musical language are in stark contrast to Richard Strauss' virtuoso Concerto for Horn and Orchestra, and the sonorous „Italian“ Symphony by Mendelssohn.

Berolina-Orchester e. V.
Berliner Symphoniker

  • Robert Schumann:
    Symphonie Nr. 1 B-Dur op. 38 (Frühlingssymphonie)
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Konzert für Klarinette und Orchester A-Dur KV 622
  • Ludwig van Beethoven:
    Symphonie Nr. 6 F-Dur op. 68 (Pastorale)
conductor:
Lior Shambadal
soloist:
Wenzel Fuchs, Klarinette

The works from Robert Schumann and Ludwig van Beethoven awaken associations with themes depicting Nature, even though the two composers spoke out against their two symphonies, „Spring Symphony „and „The Pastoral Symphony“ , bearing a programmatic meaning. This symphonic setting includes the famous Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra by W.A. Mozart with Wenzel Fuchs, solo clarinetist from the Berlin Philharmonic. The Berlin Philharmonic, with its principal conductor Lior Shambadal, show once again that it is only with consistently high levels of dedication, motivation, and enthusiasm that an orchestra can achieve success on the international orchestra scene.

  • Bela Bartók:
    Der wunderbare Mandarin (Suite)
  • Jean Sibelius:
    Violinkonzert d-Moll op. 47
  • Johannes Brahms:
    Sinfonie Nr. 2 D-Dur op. 73
    Sinfonie Nr. 1 c-moll op. 68
conductor:
Lothar Zagrosek
soloist:
Viktoria Mullova, Violine

Bela Bartok's highly expressive music for the one act pantomime ballet „The Miraculous Mandarin“ from 1919 belongs to the influential compositions which made a significant contribution to the development of music history in the twentieth century. The ballet tells a sordid modern story of prostitution, robbery and murder. Jean Sibelius' sophisticated Violin Concerto expresses a very different character. Interpreted by Viktoria Mullova, one of the most distinguished violinists performing today. The final performance is of Johannes Brahms' Second Symphony, which due to the musical tone is popularly referred to as his „Pastoral“. With Lothar Zagrosek and the Berlin Concert House Orchestra, the afternoon program is in the best of hands.

    Klavierkonzert Nr. 9 Es-Dur KV 271 "Jenamy"
  • Gustav Mahler:
  • Sinfonie Nr. 5 cis-Moll
conductor:
Howard Griffiths

Amoung the early piano concerts from W.A. Mozart, the Piano Concerto No. 9 “Jeunehomme“ is considered the most important due to its remarkable composition, and also belongs to the most popular of Mozarts' works in this genre. The work is highly regarded by the critics. Alfred Brendel called it „one of the greatest wonders of the world“. Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony enjoyed an increase in popularity as a result of the inclusion of its Fourth Movement, the Adagietto, in director Lucchino Visconti's film „Death in Venice“.

Bachorchester des Gewandhauses Leipzig

  • Josef Haydn:
    Sinfonie Nr. 48 „Maria Theresia“
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
    Klavierkonzert B-Dur KV 595
  • Johann Christoph Graupner:
Konzert für 2 Hörner, Pauken und Orchester F-Dur

Ouvertüre, Bourrée, La Paix, La Rejouissance
direction:
Christoph Funke
soloists:
Peter Rösel, Klavier
Marek Stefula, Pauken

The musicians from the Leipzig Gewandhaus are sure to offer a program packed with „Festmusik“. Haydn wrote his Symphony in C Minor to honour the visit of the Empress Maria Theresia to Esterhazy Palace, and Handel's Firework Music was composed on the occasion of the Peace of Aix-la-Chappelle. Johann Christoph Graupner, a composer of high Baroque music, was always on the cutting edge for his time and very innovative in his ideas for harmony, notation and use on instruments. In today's program we can enjoy the ceremonially majesterial Concerto for Two Horns and Timpani. Finally the Grand Seigneur of the piano, Peter Rösel, will perform Mozart's Concerto in B-flat major for Piano and Orchestra. Mozart introduces a reflective work into the afternoon's program.

Konzerthausorchester Berlin

  • Richard Strauss:
Der Bürger als Edelmann op. 59
  • Anton Dvorák:
    Sinfonie Nr. 6 D-Dur op. 60
conductor:
Thomas Dausgaard

Richard Strauss' light Orchestral Suite „Der Bürger als Edelmann“ is based on his performance music to Molieres comedy „Le bourgeois gentilhomme“. A rare piece from the works of Richard Strauss, which incidentally is not to be missed.
Dvorák's Sixth Symphony secured him international fame following its premiere in 1881, where it was so well received that the Scherzo Movement was played as an encore. The influence of his native Bohemia, its sounds and its culture are abundant and give the work a refreshing flavour reminiscent of his Slavonic Dances.

  • Gustav Mahler:
    Adagio der 10. Sinfonie
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
    Konzertarie KV 505
  • Gustav Mahler:
    1. Sinfonie D-Dur
conductor:
Gabriel Feltz
soloist:
Stella Doufexis, Sopran

With the Unfinished Tenth Symphony, Mahler reached a new intensity of expression. The first movement, the Adaggio, was completed in its entirety. In contrast is Mahler's First Symphony. It is very hard to resist the draw of a piece that begins with the strings playing one single note spreading over seven octaves. Mahler said it was „like a sound of nature“. Also in the program features a piece Mozart wrote for Nancy Storace, the first singer who performed the role of „Susanna“ in „Figaro“ . We would all agree how important it is to nurture the next generation of musical talent and look forward to welcoming the National Youth Orchestra and their performance of today's program.

The musicians from Halle will open their performance with one of the most popular overtures by Beethoven. Antonin Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor is the most often performed cello concerto and musically owes much to the folk music of his native Bohemia. The piece will be performed by the 21 year old Benedict Kloeckner, who in his short career has already managed to win a large number of prizes and awards. The 33 year old Lukasz Borowicz is principal conductor of the Warsaw Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and ranks amongst the most notable orchestra leaders of his generation. He makes his debut at the Chorin Music Summer with what to date is the relatively unknown „Polish“ Symphony by Tschaikowsky.
